Hey buddies, en el post de hoy veremos expresiones útiles para mantener una conversación por teléfono. Seguro que hay situaciones en el trabajo que a veces son más rápidas de solucionar con una llamada telefónica que con una larga cadena de mails, si, si, seguro que con tal de no hablar por teléfono en inglés delante de tus compañeros prefieres enviarlo todo por mail (y sobre todo si ya descargarte nuestr0 E-book para escribir email en inglés 🙂 ) y ya te aprendiste todos los trucos.

Pues bien, en este nuevo post comienza tu aventura para que por fin puedas perder el miedo a hablar por teléfono en inglés y además te lo contamos todo con ejemplos en inglés y español para que te resulte super fácil.

Empezamos con cómo recibir llamadas, vamos a ello!

 

Receiving calls (recibir llamadas)

 

Answering the phone (responder el teléfono)

Dana speaking, How can I help you? – le habla Dana, ¿en qué puedo ayudarle?
Morning, ATC International, How can I help you? – Buenos días, ha llamado a ATC International ¿en qué puedo ayudarle?
You’ve reached the sales department, Grace speaking how can I help you? – Ha llamado al departamento de ventas, le habla Grace, ¿en qué puedo ayudarle?

Asking for someone’s name (preguntar quién llama)

May I ask who’s calling please? – ¿puedo preguntar quién llama?
Who’s calling please? – ¿Quién llama? (o también ¿de parte de quién?, si tenemos que transferir una llamada)
May I have your name, please? – ¿puede indicarme su nombre?
Could I have your name, please? – ¿puede indicarme su nombre?
And which company are you calling from? – ¿de qué empresa llama?

Connecting the caller (pasar una llamada)

Could you hold on a moment, please? – ¿puede esperar un momento?
Hold the line please. – espere por favor.
Just a moment please. – un momento por favor.
One moment, please. I’ll see if Mr Jones is available. – un momento, veré si está disponible.
Let me check if he/she is available. – permítame comprobar si está disponible.
I’ll put you through (to him/her). – le paso con él/ella.
I’m connecting you now. – le paso la llamada.

Saying a person is not available (decir que una persona no está disponible)

I’m sorry but line is busy/engaged. – lo siento, la línea está ocupada / comunica.
I’m afraid he/she is not available at the moment.- me temo que no está disponible en este momento.
I’m afraid he/she is in a meeting. – me temo que está en una reunión.
I’m afraid he/she is not at the office. – me temo que no está en la oficina hoy.
He’s busy right now. Could you call again later? – Está ocupado, ¿puede llamar más tarde?

Taking a message (tomar nota / un mensaje)

Would you like to leave a message? – ¿le gustaría dejar un mensaje?
Could I take a message for (him/her)? – ¿puedo tomar nota / un mensaje?
Would you like to call (him/her) back later? – ¿le gustaría llamar de nuevo más tarde?
I’ll tell her/him to call you back. – le digo que le devuelva la llamada.
I’ll tell Ms. Jones that you called. – le diré que ha llamado.
I’ll let him know you called. – le diré que ha llamado.
May I have your phone number / name again please? – ¿puede indicarme su nombre / número de nuevo?

Checking information (comprobar / pedir información)

Would you mind saying that again? – ¿le importaría repetir eso?
Could you please repeat that? – ¿podría repetir eso?
Do you mind repeating that? – ¿le importaría repetir eso?
Sorry, I didn’t catch that. – lo siento, no lo he entendido
Could you spell it for me, please? – ¿puede deletrearlo por favor?
Could you please speak up? – ¿podría hablar más alto?
Could you please speak more slowly? – ¿podría hablar más despacio?
Let me check it with you, it’s… right? – déjeme comprobarlo con usted, es … verdad?
Let me repeat that just to make sure. – se lo repito para asegurarme (de que es correcto).

 

Ahora que ya dominas el arte de recibir llamadas, vamos a ver cómo realizarlas y que veas lo sencillo que es hablar por teléfono en inglés, seguimos!

 

Making calls (realizar llamadas)

 

Identifying yourself on the phone (identificarse al teléfono)

Hello, This is Chris from ATC International – hola soy Chris de ATC International
Chris speaking – *Speaking – si preguntan por tí, simplemente dices, speaking como «al habla».

Asking to speak to someone (pedir hablar con alguien)

May I speak to Jerry Stent, please? – ¿podría hablar con Jerry Stent por favor?
I’d like to speak to Jerry Stent, please. – me gustaría hablar con Jerry Stent.

Giving reason for calling (motivo de la llamada)

I’m calling about… – llamo sobre…
I’m calling to confirm… – llamo para confirmar…

Leaving a message (dejar un mensaje / una nota)

Could I leave a message (with you)? – ¿podría dejarle un mensaje?
I’d like to leave a message (for him/her). – me gustaría dejar(le) un mensaje para él/ella.
Could you tell him/her to call me back (when he’s available)? – ¿podría decirle que me llame cuando esté disponible?
Do you know when she will be free/available? – ¿sabe cuando estará disponible?
Could you please ask him/her to call me back? – por favor dígale que me llame.
Could you just tell him/her that I called? – ¿podría decirle que he llamado?

 

Y ya si quieres ser un autentico maestro y demostrar tu valía al teléfono puedes usar estos phrasal verbs:

 

Important phrasal verbs on the phone

 

Put someone through (to someone else) – pasar la llamada (a alguien).

I’ll put you through (to Ms. Juniper) – le paso con…
Could you put me through to Sam King? – podría pasarme con…
Could you put me through to extension number 832?- podría pasarme con la extensión…

Call (someone) back – devolver la llamada

Could you please ask her to call me back? – por favor dígale que me llame.
Please tell her/him to call me back. – por favor dígale que me llame.
No problem, I’ll call (her/him) back later.- (le) llamo más tarde.
*Aquí hay que tener cuidado con los pronombres personales, quién llama / devuelve la llamada a quién.

Hold on – espere

Hold on please – espere por favor.
Hold on a minute – espere un minuto.

Pick up – coger el teléfono, contestar una llamada

I’ll pick up the phone – contesto yo.
Can you pick up the phone? – ¿puedes contestar el teléfono?

Hang up – colgar el teléfono

Could you just hang up and call again ? – ¿puede colgar y llamar de nuevo?

Speak up – hablar más alto

Could you speak up please? – ¿podría hablar más alto?

Break up – escuchar entrecortado

I can’t hear you very well, you’re breaking up – no te escucho bien, se escucha entrecortado.

Cut off – cortarse una llamada

I think the call was cut off. – creo que se ha cortado la llamada.
Can I speak to him again? The call was cut off. – ¿puedo hablar con él de nuevo? se ha cortado la llamada.

Esperamos que te sirva de gran ayuda y con estas expresiones te lances a coger el teléfono, empieza por situaciones más sencillas primero para coger confianza y poco a poco verás como cada vez lo haces mejor, ya verás que una vez superas el miedo a hablar por teléfono en inglés es muy sencillo.

    La palabra «mind» es muy versátil en inglés y se utiliza en bastantes expresiones idiomáticas, muchas de ellas tienen un equivalente parecido en español.     Put your mind at ease / to reassure – tranquilizar.

    Out of sight, out of mind – «corazón que no ve, corazón que no siente»
    You know what they say «out of sight, out of mind».

    A piece of your mind / give your opinion – dar tu opinión (sobre todo sobre un tema serio o que te enfada/molesta).

    To speak your mind / to say frankly what you think – decir lo que piensas honestamente.
