¿Cómo podemos decir falta, me falta o me hace falta en inglés? pues no hay una sola manera, depende de qué situación estemos hablando, te contamos con muchos ejemplos las numerosas formas de usar el verbo faltar en inglés.
El verbo faltar es un verbo que usamos muy a menudo y de muy diversas maneras en español, (me falta, falta, me hace falta, cuánto falta…) pero la dificultad de expresar esos conceptos en inglés está en que no hay una sola forma de hacerlo, por eso en el post de hoy te damos algunas pautas y muchos, muchos ejemplos para que te hagas una idea de las diferentes expresiones a las que podemos recurrir. Lo hemos organizado en varios bloques para que sea más sencillo.
-Por un lado para decir faltar en inglés en el sentido de que no hay, podemos usar to be missing por ejemplo
Faltan varios recibos – There are several receipts missing.
A esta camisa le falta un botón – This shirt is missing a button.
Mira en tu bolsa, a ver si falta algo – Check your bag to see if there’s anything missing.
Faltan algunos tornillos de esta estantería – There are some screws missing on this shelf.
Creo que no falta nada, ya lo tenemos todo – I think we’re not missing anything, we have everything we need.
-Si faltamos a una clase, una reunión, un evento etc podemos decirlo con el verbo to miss, por ejemplo
Faltaron a la reunión – They missed the meeting.
Ha faltado a clase este mes – He’s missed some classes this month.
Falta Laura – Laura is missing. (o Laura is absent).
No debes faltar a esta fiesta – You shouldn’t miss this party.
¿Quién faltó ayer? – Who was missing yesterday? (o who was absent yesterday?)
Nunca falta a una cita – He never misses an appointment.
-Si queremos usar el verbo faltar en inglés para hablar de la falta de algo, la carencia (como tiempo, información, espacio, personal…) podemos usar el verbo to lack, y también las expresiones lack of, short of vamos a verlo mejor en los ejemplos
Nos falta espacio en nuestra oficina – We lack space in our office (o we have a lack of space in our office).
Hubo tantos asistentes que faltaban sillas en la sala – There were so many attendants that the room was short of chairs.
La renovación fue cancelada por falta de fondos – The renovation works were cancelled due to a lack of funds.
Nos falta personal en el almacén – We are short of personnel in the warehouse.
Es buena cocinera, pero le falta experiencia – She’s a good cook, but she lacks experience.
Nos faltó más información – We lacked some more information.
La falta de tiempo fue una desventaja – The lack of time was a disadvantage.
Eso es una falta de respeto – It shows a lack of respect.
-Si hablamos de hacer falta, en el sentido de necesitar, lo más fácil es usar el verbo to need de nuevo vamos a verlo con ejemplos
Nos hace falta café – We need more coffee.
Me hace falta ayuda – I need help with this.
Te hace falta un coche – You really need (to have) a car.
A esto plato le falta sal – This dish needs more salt.
Lo que hace falta es más disciplina – What is needed here is more discipline.
No nos hace falta nada – We don’t need anything (we have everything we need).
Me hace falta recuperar las fuerzas – I need to regain my strength.
No hace falta que se lo digas – There’s no need for you to tell her.
Hace falta que trabajemos en equipo – We need to work as a team.
-Cuando hablamos de faltar en el sentido de lo que nos queda por hacer, aquí podemos jugar con varias opciones, observa los ejemplos
Me falta hacer unos recados – I still need to run some errands.
Solo falta tu firma – We only need your signature (o All you have to do is sign).
Solo me falta hacer una llamada – I only need to make a call.
Es lo único que me faltaba ahora! – That’s all I needed now!
Falta mucho por hacer – There’s still a lot to be done.
¿Te falta mucho? – Will you be long?
No me falta mucho, ya casi estoy – I won’t be long, I’m almost ready.
¿Te falta mucho para terminar? – Will it take you long to finish?
-Y finalmente uno de los más «complicated» con el verbo faltar en inglés, el dichoso ¿cuánto (tiempo) falta?
Es importante que el contexto sea el del tiempo, porque si no es así, posiblemente necesitemos otro tipo de estructuras. Aquí ya tenemos que echar mano de varios recursos como: how long..?, it won’t be long, a week / month off, some days/ minutes to go, entre otros, de nuevo observa el uso de estas expresiones en los ejemplos
¿Cuánto falta para las vacaciones? – How long is it until the holidays? How long is it to the holidays?
Falta un mes para las vacaciones – There’s a month to go until the holidays.
Falta poco para el verano – It’s not long until summer.
Falta poco para que llegue – It won’t be long until he arrives.
Ya falta poco para llegar – We are almost there.
Ya no falta mucho – It won’t be long.
Aún faltan unos minutos – There are still some minutes to go.
Solo faltan cinco minutos para que empiece la carrera – There are just five minutes to go before the race starts.
Solo falta un mes para la boda – The wedding is just a month off.
Falta una semana para la reunión – The meeting is a week off.
Son muchos ejemplos todos juntos pero no os agobiéis, como siempre, nos gusta dar muchos detalles y ejemplos para que podáis comprender las diferentes maneras de decir faltar en inglés. Come out – to become known- conocerse, salir a la luz.

Come (a)round – to change your opinion – cambiar de opinión (dejarse convencer).

In the end, we came round and accepted their expert advice.
I think they will come round to our way of seeing things.
Come (a)round – to visit someone – pasarse a ver.

Come round – to recover consciousness – recobrar la consciencia.

She was coming round, but she was a bit confused after the surgery.
Come up – appear, happen, occur (unexpectedly) – ocurrir, surgir.

I’m sorry I miss the meeting, something came up in the last minute.
Come up with – to think of an idea/ a plan – pensar, dar con una idea o un plan.
E.g.
They came up with a fantastic plan to make processes more efficient.
